Isn't this a handsome mailbox? May 30, 2017, I made a trip into Oak Ridge to sit for an interview. The new Manhattan Project National Park is recording memories of former employees of the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant for inclusion in an on-site museum. As I was leaving, I spotted this beautiful mailbox and, as I had to be in town again the next day, I dropped by for a photo.
On this day in 1904, Southern Railway Trains no. 12 and 15 collided head on at Hodge's Switch in eastern Tennessee. The Galbraiths did not survive the disaster and they are buried in Old Gray Cemetery.
Seen here in 2004, this beautiful old barn near the corner of Beaver Creek Drive and Harrell Road suffered several instances of storm damage before it was finally razed a few years ago. There is nothing left but the pasture now as the small barn on the left and the house in the background were also removed.
