Tonight's local newscast featured an article showing Senator Lamar Alexander practicing with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in preparation for a celebratory concert in Cades Cove this summer honoring the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
It reminded me that I attended his concert at the 50th anniversary celebration back in 1984 and happened to be sitting next to his wife Honey and his mother although I did not know that at the time. During a break he came to sit with them and chatted with my mother and me.
I prevailed upon him to autograph this program.
I must say that, although I disagree with most of his politics, he is a pretty good piano player.
