I landed my first real job in 1966. One of the first things I did was to start collecting antiques. This lady was my first. She stands about fourteen inches tall on her rosewood base and she cost me all of seven dollars. I bought her in the shop of Mrs Nora Leahy a friend of my mother and herself an antique in her eighties.
Mrs. Octave Letorey was my childhood friend and neighbor. In the early 1960s, when we raised strawberries, my brother and I would often pedal our bicycles to her house with a basket full of the goodies.
As did many other farmers in the valley, the Letoreys kept Collies. I replaced her mailbox after a drunken driver destroyed it and broke this sign.
